BORROWED WISDOM:
It's no coincidence that four of the six letters in health are "heal".  ~Ed Northstrom

A simple definition of health:  the state of being free from illness or injury.
A simple definition of heal:  become sound or healthy again.

In this world the unseen has power.– Apache Indian Proverb.  I believe that powerful healing mechanisms come in many different unseen forms too.  In addition to visiting doctors for healing and our own religious beliefs and spirituality about healing, we can also use  our minds to control our emotional states and natural aids when we seek to heal.  Here’s some borrowed wisdom about a sampling of them:  Self-Awareness & Pain; Nature; Laughter; Breathing; Compassion; Self-Love & Care...

SELF- AWARENESS & PAIN

3-Routes to Healing:  1) You must let pain visit.  2) You must allow it to teach you.  3) You must not allow it to overstay. –  Ijeoma Umebinyuo

If there is a single definition of healing it is to enter with mercy and awareness those pains, mental and physical, from which we have withdrawn in judgment and dismay. – Stephen Levine

Much of your pain is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self. – Khalil Gibran

If your body is screaming in pain, whether the pain is muscular contractions, anxiety, depression, asthma or arthritis, a first step in releasing the pain may be making the connection between your body pain and the cause. “Beliefs are physical. A thought held long enough and repeated enough becomes a belief.  The belief then becomes biology. ― Marilyn Van M. Derbur

Emotional pain cannot kill you but running from it can.  Allow.  Embrace.  Let yourself feel.  Let yourself heal. – Vironika Tugaleva

Don’t ever discount the wonder of your tears. They can be healing waters and a stream of joy. Sometimes they are the best words the heart can speak. – William P. Young

You may have had unfair things happen to you, but the depth of your pain is an indication of the height of your future. – Joel Osteen

NATURE

I go to nature to be soothed, healed and have my senses put in order. – John Burroughs

Nature itself is the best physician. – Hippocrates

Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature – the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter – Racheal Carson

Place your hands into soil to feel grounded. Wade in water to feel emotionally healed. Fill your lungs with fresh air to feel mentally clear. Raise your face to the heat of the sun and connect with that fire to feel your own immense power – Victoria Erickson

Laughter

It’s true that laughter really is cheap medicine. It’s a prescription anyone can afford. And best of all, you can fill it right now. – Steve Goodier

A good laugh heals a lot of hurts. — Madeleine L’Engle

Humor is the WD-40 of healing. -- George Goodstriker - Kainai Elder

Laughter is the best medicine.  If you can laugh when you are ill you will get your health back sooner.  If you cannot laugh, even if you are healthy, sooner or later you will lose your health and you will become ill. — Osho

Once you start laughing, you start healing. – Sherry Argov

Breathing

Mindful breathing brings calm and relief to the mind and body. – Thich Nhat Hanh

Breathing is a core physiological function and it is a function that unites mind and body, it connects the unconscious mind with the conscious mind, that gives us access to the master controls of the involuntary nervous system. – Andrew Weil

When the breath is unsteady, all is unsteady; when the breath is still; all is still. Control the breath carefully. Inhalation gives strength and a controlled body; retention gives steadiness of mind and longevity; exhalation purifies body and spirit. – Goraksasathakam

Breathe in deeply to bring your mind home to your body. – Thich Nhat Hanh

Your breathing is your greatest friend. Return to it in all your troubles and you will find comfort and guidance.    – Anonymous

Compassion

When we surround ourselves with people who are committed to understanding and loving, we’re nourished by their presence and our own seeds of understanding and love are watered. When we surround ourselves with people who gossip, complain, and are constantly critical, we absorb these toxins. – Thich Nhat Hanh

Our sorrows and wounds are healed only when we touch them with compassion.  – Buddha

When you look at someone with understanding and compassion, that kind of a looking has a power of healing on yourself. – Thich Nhat Hanh

There is a fine line between compassion and a victim mentality. Compassion though is a healing force and comes from a place of kindness towards yourself.  Playing the victim is a toxic waste of time that not only repels other people, but also robs the victim of ever knowing true happiness. – Bronnie Ware

Healing cannot occur in the absence of self-love and compassion. – Anonymous

Self- Love & Care

Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths.
– Etty Hillesum

Accept yourself.  Love yourself as you are.  Your finest work, your best movements, your joy, peace, and healing comes when you love yourself.  You give a great gift to the world when you do that.  You give others permission to do the same: to love themselves.  Revel in self-love.  Roll in it.  Bask in it as you would sunshine. – Melodie Beattie

Everyday we are born again.  What we do today is what matters most.  – Buddha

American Indian Wisdom:  So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart.  Trouble no man about his religion ~ respect him in his views, and demand that he respect yours.  Love your life; perfect your life.  Beautify all things in your life.  Seek to make your life long and of service to your people.  Show respect to all men, but grovel to none.  When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength. Give thanks for your food, and the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies with yourself. – Tecumseh – Shawnee

My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style. – Maya Angelou

The best doctors in the world are Doctor Diet, Doctor Quiet, and Doctor Merryman. – Jonathan Swift

Feel Better, Look Better, Be Better:  It’s How You Think-Eat-Move-Rest & Relax. – Judith Garner
